Here's a new thread for planning your next moves.

Well, first thing we'd need to do is get an actual look at the place. Kinda hard to plan when we have barely an idea of what it is we are attacking..

Sounds like a good first move.

You think?
Anyone got a favorite spell they think we'll be needing today before I prepare Eber's list. I'm thinking a fireball just because we're facing goblins, but beyond that and Eber's defensive spells I'm not sure what we'll be needing. Black holes are where God divided by zero. |

We could definitely use an invisibility for scouting purposes. Alex will of course be only too happy to take on that role.
I think sending an invisible Alex in would be a good first step in scouting the place out. Any other ideas? |

I just want to say..... Who the heck is Kella?
OK, I know we're not supposed to know yet. I just thought it was a little bit odd that nobody had even wondered about it out loud in the OOC! Anyway, Nadia will probably prepare Hold Person. I'll have to look to see what else. Haste is always good for Eber to have handy. I also just want to say that I really enjoyed the whole Varg encounter and subsequent roleplaying challenges. (Especially since nobody actually died or turned into a monster!) I'd like to think that someone out there is reading along and enjoying it too. |

Nadia's feat | ||
|
I finally decided on Nadia's feat for level six. I'll go ahead and take Scribe Scroll. That will give Nadia something useful to do with her down time, and take some of the burden off Eber.
I updated my spells in the item tracker also. |

And yes, that was a nice job. I liked Alex's plan to sacrifice himself. That was a nice touch. In fact, I think I'll go give him a little xp for that. |

A cleric with Scribe Scroll is excellent. You can have some of those useful in just the right situation spells handy - but ones you would never have memorized. Like water breathing or lesser restoration.
Parallax beat me to requesting invisible for a scouting mission. I thought the Kella post was interesting too, but was too preoccupied to say anything in Ooc. edited to add: the thing that killed us with the mine entrance was that they rang their warning gong...if Alex can find the hobgobs' alarm and disable it that would be swell. |

Heh one of the reason I like to play non-spellcasters is that I don't have to worry about what spells to choose.
Scribe Scroll isn't bad. At this level though, I prefer Craft Wand myself (it's what my cleric took at 6th level in 199 AJS). CLW wands are very cheap to make, and liberate other spells. But then again, we got a place to buy them, so it's sorta beside the point. Yeah, since we have a good source for cure wands, scribe scroll makes sense. As for Della.. From what I gathered, we'll find out who she is soon enough.. But I have a feeling she might be an ally. That would be nice.
Anyway, we've got a holiday weekend coming up here in Boston and I'll be out of town until Monday night. I'm going to put up a map of the temple compound - what you will be able to see from scouting around outside plus the results of a close-up look at the entrance(s) from an invisible scouting mission. That should give you enough fodder to do some serious planning over the weekend, if you're so inclined. Feel free to play with the morning at the campsite. I rolled a search for everyone, just in case. If you feel it's an appropriate action for your character here are the results: Alex: 14 - another pile of old bones. Underneath the bones he spots something that turns out to be a hand crossbow. The metal is tarnished and the string is broken, but it looks like it could be repaired. Penelope: 14 - a small pouch near the bones. It contains 4 gold pieces. Nadia: 20 - She would be able to spot a fresh footprint in the area where everyone heard the snapping twigs the night before. Rolf: 21 - same as Nadia. Eber: 7 - obviously, Eber is too busy studying and preparing his spells. Nobody has the track feat, so it would be impossible for you to follow the footprints. I'll trust you all to decide if your characters would actually do the searching. |

Ok. The map is up. Invisible reconnoitering will disclose that there are four hobgoblins hiding in the rubble around the main gate. Another four hobgoblins are up on the temple steps guarding the entrance there. A pack of dogs wanders around inside the compound. You count six of them.

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC

How tightly clustered are the two groups?
I'm thinking it'd be fun to stage an ambush of the four in the rubble. We could pelt them with ranged attacks from afar, hopefully staying hidden at the same time. This might cause them to call to the other guards to come help them. Hopefully they'd then group together tight enough for Eber to drop a single fireball on all eight of them. Of course, the alert would also ruin any chance of suprise we had inside the temple. Black holes are where God divided by zero. |

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC

The four at the front gate are spread out on both sides of the gate, which is 30 feet across - so it would take about a 50' radius to encompass them The ones at the front of the temple are closer together, maybe a 30' radius for them. The temple doors are 100' or so away from the front gate.

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC

Hmm... So much for that idea then. Fireball only has a 20ft radius.
Hell, given the scale on the map, one of Eber's fireball's wouldn't even fill a whole square. Any one else got any ideas? Black holes are where God divided by zero. |

Wouldn't I love to take Craft Wand! But Nadia isn't a sixth level cleric yet - only fourth. Sigh.
I'm curious about David's holiday, because I have no idea what it is. Boston has it's own holidays? I didn't know that. I suppose that Texas has a few of its own holidays. Texas Independence Day I know for one, but it isn't what you'd consider a real holiday. Nobody gets a day off or anything. I can't even remember when it is, but then again, I'm not a natural-born Texan. I was born in Ohio, so that makes me a - shhh! don't tell anyone! - a Yankee. |

LOL, sometimes Lisa you crack me up and that was one of those times.
I'm going to have to admit that I didn't think Pen would do any searching. She would of course, if someone said, "Pen you search over there." But, she's pretty much leaving that stuff up to Alex. He finds clues and treasure, she probably feels like she only gets in his way. Don't be too dissappointed about the distane, BP, I am sure there is something to fireball inside. What do you guys think about a straight out charge in and attack? That might be fun. |

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC

Well, unless I read the situation terribly, terribly wrongly, the opposition in here should be nothing like what we found in the Rastor's mines, so an all-out attack should work just fine, I think. Well, we -could- try to sneak up on the rubbles dudes, I suppose.
And don't worry about being a yankee, Lisa, I'm from too far north to even be one of those.. :/ I hadn't realized David was from Boston. Heck, that's not even that far from me! Where's Parallax and BP at? I know Lisa is in Texas and Jen in the Netherlands.. And I'm pretty sure I'm in western NY. I'm originally from the Washington DC area, but I live in Vermont for the moment (that will most likely be changing in September).
As for why Bostonians have a holiday today, its Patriot Day in Mass. Whole state's got the day off, and they're running the Marathon in Boston. Traffic will be hell there today. If the rubble dudes are fairly spread out, Alex might have fun sneaking up on them and trying to take the out one by one. The rest of us could be on hand in case he's discovered and then we can all take on the doormen together. Black holes are where God divided by zero. |

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC

Alex would definitely have fun trying to take out the rubble dudes. When he's discovered, we can begin the all-out assault.
And I'm currently in Ann Arbor, Michigan - though hopefully not for long, if I can manage to get hired somewhere after I gradute in 2 weeks. Lisa - your Yankee status depend on where in Ohio you're from. Toledo or Cleveland, sure. Anywhere near Kentucky, and you're a Southerner anyway. |

Re: Old Temple Assault - OOC
|
Yep, Patriot's Day and the Boston Marathon. Fortunately, we didn't come back until late in the day. Of course, we wouldn't have to drive through that area anyway, since we actually live in Cambridge.
Anyway, that plan sounds really good - especially if someone has an improved invisibility somewhere up their sleeve. Let me work up a detailed tactical map of the front gate with actual hobgoblin positions. Given the circumstances there, if you can pass the checks for moving silently and hiding (remember that hiding while moving is harder), I'll treat one-shot kills as stealth kills, i.e. the other hobgoblins won't be aware of what's happening. |
