Map is up. Note that the main gate's doors were destroyed in the assault many years ago. There's nothing blocking the entryway into the compound at this point.

Well, improved invisibility is a 4th level spell, so I certianly don't have one up my sleeve (and neither does Eber
Eber does have a second invisibility prepared however. Perhaps we could use it to allow Alex to sneak up on H3, through the dense grove of trees. If he can then drop H3 with a single melee attack, he should still have cover from the rest of the hobgoblins, allowing him to try sniping them with his bow. From E12 he should be able to snipe H4 (with SA damage). Move to F14, he's got LOS on H2. If Eber cast haste on Alex, he could even do all that in just 2 rounds. I think H1 will see H2 getting dropped. His line of vision is such that he'd at least see the arrow fly, if not his companion drop if he's paying even attention even a little bit. That, of course would put Alex in danger of a retalitory attack by H1, but we could have Pen or Rolf waiting on the oppisite side of the grove of trees to reinforce Alex if it came to that (Alex could retreat towards them very quickly if haste was still in effect). What do y'all think? Black holes are where God divided by zero. |

I think that sounds great. He can just holler when they discover him and the noisy people will come running....clanging.
We don't want to be too far away, but we do want to be able to help. 120 feet away? 200? What makes sense. This will be important so that Rob knows how many rounds he's got before we can be there to take the heat off. |

Just to be sure it's clear. All four hobgoblins are hidden within their respective positions - by either trees or vines. Although they each know where the others are, they can't see each other directly very well. This will give Alex, or anyone firing a ranged weapon, a 30% miss chance for concealment in dense foliage.

Hmm... Well, that's a bummer. Parallax, since Alex is the one at most risk what do you think?

I like the idea of Alex - hasted and invisible - sneaking around in the rubble, backstabbing the hobs. Well of course he'd only be invisible for the first one. Or maybe he wouldn't need to be invisible at all. He could just sneak. If, as David says, the hobs are all sort of hidden from each other, Alex just might be able to pull it off. Once he got into trouble he could try to run back toward us.
And just for the record, I am from the Cleveland area. (Actually, around Canton.) So I am definitely a Yankee. |

Well, alright then Lisa. I guess Cleveland counts.
And Alex is all kinds of up for sneaking around after the hobs. I'd appreciate an invisibilty to start with at least, but I wouldn't even worry too much about the haste. He'll need to move slowly to maintain his stealth anyway - haste would be much better used on Rolf or Pen once we're in a heated battle. I'm willing to start as soon as Alex is invisible. Today was my last day of class - I have one more exam to write, and I'm done. Finally. |

As you wish. Invisibility lasts 50 minutes, so feel free to do a little more exploring until you break it by attacking. I'll let you or Crito advance things through Eber's casting until its time for the rest of us to get involved.

We haven't done an IC post that explains the scouting part yet, have we? I was going to do one, including a bit where Nadia and Rolf discover the print where we heard the twigs snapping, but I haven't had the time today.....

Heh. They're trying to kill me here at work. Really, these have been the most miserable two weeks I've had here in a long time!
But I'm all caught up now - *crosses fingers and knocks on wood* - so today should turn out to be pretty slow. Hopefully I can do some kind of post around lunch time. |
