We ARE a suspicious lot, and I think we've got pretty good reason to be. We've seen a couple of seemingly harmless individuals turn out to be cultists in disguise.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that Nadia is suspicious of this guy - just wary. She wouldn't have told him anything more than the bare essentials. His remark about throwing metal statues didn't really seem to require an answer. And Nadia's response to "what are you doing here?" would have been a simple "just looking around", at least until she'd learned more about him.

It made sense for Eber to answer the man, though. He was the one who intitiated the conversation and, with Alex out of sight, was probably the next logical choice for group spokesman. (Well really, ALL the other logical choices were out of sight - Nadia is hardly ever the one that the group relies on to do the talking.)

Anyway, Eber did all right. I may have overstated Nadia's surprise in my post. You shouldn't be discouraged from letting Eber speak up.

Besides our stuff, I was thinking we might trade a service to him for information. There might be something he'd want us to do for him. Especially if he's here for some purpose that he maybe can't quite accomplish because of the undead.

Um, David, remind me again how long ago the ToEE fell. That is, about how long has this town been abandoned? Thanks!

Now what are we willing to part with in a trade for information? Not a whole lot, I would say. He may take what we have and then tell us lies. The scrolls that Nadia mentions are the minor ones - ANIMAL MESSENGER, PROTECTION FROM ELEMENTS [FIRE], and RESISTS ELEMENTS [COLD].

Also, she is careful not to show the man anything she has other than what she is offering to trade.

Can someone try to get this guy's name? I'm getting tired of referring to him as 'the man'!

Your post was very good, Jen. I liked the way Pen said what she did.

I was surprised that she sensed such a strong evil aura, especially knowing the way David does the alignment thing. Guys like Chatrilon who might normally show up as evil (in other dm's campaigns) don't. But this guy does. He's either trying to accomplish something very evil, or has done something evil in the past. At least that's what I think.

And yet he doesn't seem to be sympathetic towards the ToEE.

Anyway, if he tells us something useful, fine; if not, fine. Let's not waste too much of our resources on him. He's an interesting puzzle though, isn't he?
