The idol does not attempt any more hostile moves, but rather just pulses and emits the terrifying, ever-increasing high pitch sound. The five of you quickly make your way outside the room, and as it really seems like a good idea, outside the mine itself.
A cloud of dust belches forth from the old mine as rocks continue to tumble down. The ground trembles slightly under your feet for almost a full minute before subsiding. When the dust clears, the mine's entrance has been buried under a rockslide. Janna looks back in the direction of the mine as tears come to her eyes. The stolid determination that has so characterized her for the past few days falls away as her whole body trembles. She collapses into the arms of Corian and allows herself to be overcome by her sorrow. Now that she is released from her task, it seems she no longer needs to hold it all in. "Oh, Gerardann, it is done," you hear her weep, "but the cost... the cost.." |
