Hiding the half of the spear with the point in it behind his back, Narthos goes to follow the Taes into the woods only to be shooed away and have the Taes point at the Dead Man."Why does the Taes make me stay behind? I am better at sneaking than he is!"Narthos thinks to himself. Keeping as much distance between himself and Corian as is practical Narthos frequently glances back in Era'when's direction, then in Corian's.

Signaling the flankers to pull in, Ythan begins to climb the staircase, moving very cautiously due to the potentially slippery surface.

Corian also steps carefully, right behind Ythan. From time to time, however, he pauses for a moment and looks about rather than down, then steps a bit more quickly to catch up to Ythan.

Upon spying Ythan's signal to come in Taes approaches the group silently. Once he is back with the group he smiles reassuringly to Narthos. "Do you want to take the lead or shall I?" He asks the ranger. Once that is decided he will carefully ascend the stairs as well.
Upon seeing the Taes return and smile at him Narthos thinks,"Sure leave me behind with the Cruel One then smile when you get back, like I am a child that can be appeased with a pat on the head and that condescending smile you always use."Narthos holds his tongue, knowing it will not do any good.I can not wait until I have mastered your language, since you are obviously incapable of learning mine."Narthos continues, casting sidelong glances at Era'When. |

You proceed up the slippery staircase carefully, however, just about in the middle, Corian lose control of his movement, and the weight of his armor further spins his body out of control, and he rolls straight down the staircase. Narthos manage to escape out of the way as the armored man crush down upon him, but Taes did not notice in time to step aside, and suffers a similar fact as Corian as they both come to a stop at the bottom of the staircase. This almost comical moment is however, not funny at all to the victims, as they suffer multiple bruises and cuts from the hard, sharp stones on their descend. (17 damage for Corian, 15 damage for Taes)

Bruised and battered Taes struggles to his feet and checks to make sure his kama and potions are still intact. Shaking his head he faces Corian "You couldn't have warned me that you were about to fall? I mean if you were worried about someone hearing I think that clanking on the way down drew more attention that a 'Hey watch out' would have."
"Hghnk, hghnk, hghnk." The goblin laughs as Corian and Taes go tuumbling down the stairs. |

Ythan signals for silence below, and peers up the staircase, listening intently.

Era'when shakes his head from his hiding spot, hoping the two of them are okay, but knowing better than to let himself be revealed, should there be enemies about. He remains hidden, and will move up the staircase once the others are clear...no sense in risking another victim under the armored man's weight.

Refusing to be baited, Corian softly prays to Pelor to restore wholeness to himself, then to Taes, and resumes his climb, this time carefully, intently, watching the steps before him.

"Thanks for Pelor's blessing." Taes says as he is healed. "But if it is all the same to you... would you mind if I went up ahead of you?"
Assumeing that Corwin has no problem with that Taes will proceed him in the second ascent up the slippery stairs. |

Ythan hears nothing of importance and advances to the top. Seeing the incompentence of his companions, he lowers some ropes to pull everyone up safely. After your cumbersome ascent, you reach the top of the hill. There, you see all that remains of the civilization that once was here - crumbling foundations of green stone, dark with algae and rotted plants, scattered stonework hidden in the grasses, and the shells of several buildings, crushed into broken bits by both time and tide. Many are little more than windbreaks, and homes to dozens of gulls. The largest building was most likely quite impressive in its day, standing three stories high. Now however, it is little more than rubble, and it is clear that the roof has collasped, most likely destroying anything of value left within. A large pool of water lies in the center of the ruins; within, a soupy concoction of kelp and weeds hides anything that might be found below the surface.

Looking over the ruins, Corian considers. "I can only presume that the large structure, over there...the collapsed one? It's the most likely place to look for something of import. The rest look one-and-the-same to my eyes, and I've misgivings about that foul pool in the center."

Ythan nods, and whispers, "I have misgivings about any pool I can't see the bottom of. I thing we should spread out a bit. I'm going around to the left."
With that, Ythan quietly moves to the left of the large ruin, eyes and ears alert. |

(Ythan)
You notice something as you turn to the left to be on your way... something like a greenish leg in the grass near the pool. Nearly at the same time, you feel the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, and a cold shiver passes down your back. It's not harmful, but it certainly was not pleasant. Judging from the looks on the others' face, they must have felt the same sensation. (All) As Ythan parts, you suddenly feel the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, and a cold shiver passes down your back. Looking amongst yourselves, everyone must have felt it. Corian can feel that you are being watched, and Era'when's gesture confirms so. You are being scried upon magically. |

Era'when stops hiding, in favor of discussing with the rest of the group for a moment. Stepping back to the largest portition of the group [assuming that not everyone is together], he says "Well, little good that will do me with that spell in effect. Any ideas on who is doing it? Let me check something..."
Era'when heads back the way the group came just a bit... [Can he still sense the scrying closer to where the group entered the island (and outside of the city boundaries?] |

Re: ... | ||

The feelings were but temporary. Era'when attempts to discern some particular directions of the sensors, but fails to do so before the odd feelings subsides.

Signalling to the others that he sees something, Ythan will stop and train his bow on the place where he saw the leg, and scan the grass for others.

After giving a shiver and seeing the exchange between Corian and Era'when Taes reaizes there is nothing he can do. Deciding his time would be better spent helping Ythan Taes quickly hops down and trots over to where the ranger is and takes a look at what he found.
_________________________________________________________ Not having been told to stay behind Narthos scurries forward with Taes."Besides," he thinks"There might be something there I can get before the others do!" |

Re: Chapter Five, The Island of Woe | ||

The leg is still and lifeless... it would appear to be a dead or sleeping creature, or a sliced off limb. You detect no movements of other creatures around.

"I fear we are known, now...matters conspire for the worse. Ythan, what is it that you see? Oh, aye...I see it now as well. Keep an eye that way, but if anything, I desire e'en less to go anywhere near that pool. Do any object to the ruin now?"
