Interlude: The Returning Journy |
Lead | |
|
Exhausted, you are once again all together inside the small dome room at the top of the buried, hidden fortress. For a beief moment there, it's total silence. Counting the long dead skeleton you met earlier and your recent goblinoid follower, the six of you watch the sun slowly setting via the half-closed door.

Powder? | ||
|
Era'when glances at Narthos sniffing the powder he found. He makes a motion for the little guy to let him see it. If he does, Era'when will examine it as best he can without magic aid, then return it to him.

Re: Powder? | ||

Narthos gives a small amount of powder to Era'when, which he studies, but finds no significant use for them, nor their functions or nature. It is apparently that these are simply the by-products, or the remains, of used materials components for spellcasting purposes. Educated guesses can be made that these are from Transmutation or Necromancy spells, but you cannot tell for certain.

Still breathing hard Taes sits on the ground. "Well, we do still have the scroll, the black rock that was in the scroll case, and the case itself, so maybe it was not a total wash. Marya told us to bring back whatever we found in the tower, and we have those, plus the skeletons belongings to take her."
Looking at the sun set Taes turns to Ythan. "Can you navigate by the stars? The sooner I am out of this desert the better." |

As the others discuss matters, Corian gathers up the remains of the earlier explorer. Softly, he speaks a prayer to Pelor in thanks for delivering them safely from the crumbling tower. Then, gathering up the blanket that now holds the remains of the dead wizard, he moves to rejoin the others.

Glancing at Taes, Ythan says, "Of course. We can rest here an hour until night, and then we can start."

Taes Nods. "Good. I am glad to here it." Sitting down Taes takes a long drink of water and examines his water supply. "How is everyone doing on water? Do we need Corwin to give us a another boost before we set out?"

"I could use a bit more," says the elf, as he wistfully watches the sun go down. "Well, it looks safe now, shall we get back? I can't wait to get out of this cursed desert...dessert...bah! You people have such an odd language!" he says with a smile.
Looking a bit more serious, "I am a bit concerned about what will come next though." |

Ythan looks at Era'when, "What, the journey through the desert? We've done that before, I don't think the trip back will be any more difficult."

Night | ||
|
Soon, the sun sets, and darkness again covers this accursed land. The temperature drops rapidly, but you are not sure whether it's the coldness, the fear of the unknown, or the near death experience, that chills you to the bones.

Ythan rises, gets his pack together, and prepares to descend the tower and proceed southward.

"Actually, I meant after we get back, not the trip back to the ship. I fear we've not recovered what we were meant to..." Era'when heads down the tower and makes his way back to the ship with the rest of the party.

Re: Night | ||

You climb back out the tower, and step onto the dreaded desert once more. The freezing coldness of the night time desert again reminds you of the nearly fatal experience just an hour ago. The sky is clear, and the starlight dimly lit your way.
Just as Corian carries your skeletal friend out, you hear a low, but strong voice about 20 to 30 feet in front of you, speaking in Common: "Leave your findings in the tower on the ground, and you may leave in peace; failing that, I will have to waste time searching through your corpses for them. It is in our mutual advantage that you follow my instructions." Narthos cries out in fear as he hears the voice, starts pulling on Taes' arm, shouts something that no one understands, and flaps his arms imitating a flying bird or something similar to that affect, while making a scary, snarling face. ![]() C: Corian E: Era'when N: Narthos T: Taes Y: Ythan *: The approximate location of the origin of the voice Red line: general contour line of the surrounding region |

Re: Night | ||

Era'when mutters something about a dragon under his breath and then shouts back, "Being that we found nothing, you might as well quit wasting everyone's time, ours and your own. Given your size, though, you might be able to find something in the remains if you tear them apart. Damn place was just a deathtrap!"
[OOC: Knowledge (arcana) +10 for anything on blue dragons and their abilities. Also, I'm assuming he's pretty much lying (as is Era'when), but does Sense Motive tell him anything concrete (+4).] |

Corian opens his mouth to reply, then hears Era'when's response...and chooses to let that stand for him as well. Wearily, he shakes his head and thinks to himself, "Pelor, watch over us...this task seems to stack misfortune upon misfortune. See us out of this forsaken desert."

Ythan tenses, and stands ready to bring his bow up and shoot at the source of the voice, though he does not move yet, waiting to see if Era'when can talk them out of attacking.

Taes nods to Narthos in understanding. "All we found was a dead wizard. He has nothing of value on him. his dieing wish was to be returned to his homeland, which is what we plan on doing. I see no reason why a rotted corpse should be of any desire to you. Let us go on our way unmolested." he shouts at the dragon.

Re: Night | ||

"Interesting..."The voice contiunes, "You entered the tower, spend nearly four hours within, breaking down doors, reading letters, runes, and writings, causing the underground portion of the tower to be destroyed, and you claim to have acquired nothing? I find that hard to believe. I did not get a second chance, thus nor will I grant it. It is apparent that we have to proceed with business the hard way."
With that, a ghostly shape of a medium size blue dragon appears, and release a soul-shaking moan. (OOC: Combat initiated, please post in combat thread instead.) |

Re: Night | ||

Taes tumbles north and retrives a potion while doing so. As he drinks the potion, he feels a tingling sensation that flows through his body, seems as though something cold covers him up.
Ythan fires an arrow at the ghostly dragon, and as he expected, the arrow produces no useful effect. He quickly moves south in search of cover. Meanwhile, the frightning sound of the dragon causes Era'when, Narthos, and Corian to escape using all their energies. Corian quickly jumps back into the tower, while Era'when and Narthos flee randomly away from the dragon into some covering from the surrounding ancient structures. Dragon flies north and descends, and inhales greatly before he breathes out a line of lightning, shooting straight pass Taes and Narthos... however, both of them are nimble enough to evade the lightning completely. Steam rises up from its nostril, "Gah, luck will not save you a second time!" |

Re: Night | ||

"HaHa, is that the best you have?" Taes taunts as he reverses direction and moves south, drinking another one of his potions, avoiding a wing buffet attack from the dragon as he does so. Cursing under his breath, Ythan puts away his bow, and then moves northward along the ruins while drawing his rapier to get close.
The Dragon swoops down and charges toward Taes, its claw tears through Taes' body and installs freezing coldness that seems to stop his heart from beating. (3 damage) Corian breathes heavily, recovers from the sudden shock, and realizes that his friends are out there in need of his assistance. |

Re: Night | ||

Ythan and Taes coordinate their positions, and strikes the ghostly dragon together. Both the rapier and the fist connect successfully, and Taes feels an unnatural coldness when his fist thrusts into the dragon's incorporeal body.
"Blessed Pelor, I pray Thee...deliver us from this great evil." Corian breaks into a ragged run toward the creature. "Aid us in our time of need, shelter us from this great evil." He approaches the creature, raising his shield before him. "By the blessed light of Pelor, begone!" Ending with a shout, a golden gleam emits from the shield, lancing out toward the dragon. To the west where the sun has set, a beam of sunlight arises and shoots straight at Corian's shield, then reflects upon the dragon. After the reflection, the beam enlarges into a pillar of light, dissolving the dragon piece by piece. "It's no use, I shall return..." is the last comment of the dragon before it dissolves completely. |
