As the beast slips back into the water Taes waves goodbye. "I would love to trade toys with you after this is done O' Dread Defender of that Most Terrible of Tiny Islands. Be safe, and be vigilant for we shall return." Teas quips as the creature descends.
turning back to Narthos he addresses the goblin, "Now time to continue your lessons." |

Corian stands at the stern, gazing at the receeding spot of water where the creature sank back into the waves. Shaking his head in wonder, he quietly retires to his quarters below and waits, uncertain of what may lie ahead.

After the strange encounter with the giant beast, the rest of the travel is uneventful, for better or for worse you are not certain. By daybreak the next day, you see you are within the region of the Islands.
The captain sets anchor a few hundred yards from the shore of the Isle of the Deep. From this distance, you can see that the small island looks as though it was picked up by some immense hand, turn upside down, dunked into the sea, scraped against the bottom, then turned right side up again. The entire surface of the drowned mass is covered in green and brown seaweed and lake plants, light-colored coral pockmarks permeate the gently sloping hills. No trees are present, and the only signs of life you see are the gulls that mill about all around, nesting in the remains of the sea. At the top of one of the hills, Taes thinks he can make out a few ruined structures of some sort, although it could be just oddly shaped rock outcroppings. Captain Farland and Lady Marya meet you as you prepare to disembark the ship. "Perhaps you would find these useful." Marya holds up three vials of swirling blue liquid and hands them to you. You get into the longboat that has been provided for you. Captain Farland wishes you good luck and as you paddle towards the shore he shouts, "Return three days hence! Don't dawdle! Who knows how long she'll stay up?" As you paddle near the island, Taes and Ythan both notices there is a carven to the west, just above water level. |

"Man...this place gives me the creeps already. Very very strange. Any thoughts on where we should start?"

"Well," Taes says as he paddles, "I think I saw some ruins from the ship. And There is a cave ever there. I think either on ewould be a good start."

Ythan shrugs. "Whichever gets us on solid ground the quickest, that's what I vote for."

Corian calls out to Lady Marya as the others begin paddling..."what power do these vials possess?" Seeing she's already out of hearing, he looks them over, seeking to discover if they've a label.
Returning his attention to the others, he comments, "I'd suggest we make for the ruins, myself. If there are Kuo-Toa on this isle, I'd far rather approach them from land, not while still in a boat and more vulnerable." |

"Fine with me." Taes says. "I have always heard they were kind of fishy anyways." Taes looks at the others as he rows to see there reaction to his pun.

Era'when gives him a wry look. "I suppose that's a human joke, eh?" he says, arching an eyebrow...then shakes his head. "Weird," he says, with a slight smile.

"So long as you mock our situation on your lips alone, and not within your heart, Taes...we are but fresh from one danger and venture into another. It is not a matter to take over-lightly."
Corian resumes working his own oar, watching the water on either side warily. |

Ythan adds, "Besides, it's not a very good joke."
He continues to scan the water from his seat on the stern of the boat, arrow nocked. |

Reaching the shore, you pull the boat up along the rocky beach. Many stones scattered along the coast appear an errie shade of green; after further inspection, it is obvious that they are the remains of buildings long since destroyed. The smell of rotted vegetation hangs thick in the air, many of the sea plants are dead, but the isle seems to have a wet sheen that apparently still keeps much of the lakes greenery in a relatively healthy condition. Another strange feeling overcomes you - the Isle of the Deep is warm, like an early summer's day. The wind only flutters leaves and dances with stray hairs here; only yards beyond the beach, you can see the Wave Rider's sails flapping in the winter's chill.
Narthos seems to noticed something in the sand, and pulls out two halves of a shortspear of odd design, as Ythan looks over, he notices there are tracks near the broken spear, and they appear to be webbed feet that walk generally upright. |

Corian withdraws his medallion and, turning towards the sun, softly prays, "Lord Pelor, once again we step into the path of darkness and danger. Guide our steps and strengthen our arms as we prepare to face what lies ahead. Let the mysteries of this place be revealed in Your Blessed Light."
Tucking the medallion away once more, Corian shoulders his shield into place, draws his mace, and nods to Ythan and Taes to lead the way. |

As the party spreads out Taes addresses the party in a hushed whisper. "I will take the other flank." he says as he disappears into the brush. The last thing the party hears of him is a muttered "I wish I could have found out which of those sailors took my bow and quiver."

Staring at half of the party striding off into the woods, he says with clear disappointment in his voice, "I suppose someone should stay out here with you....Well, do we want to follow these tracks I've found, or deliberately avoid them?"

Ythan begins to follow the tracks. Over his shoulder, he says to Corian, "I know very little about the sea, and even less about those that live underneath. I would hope that a people that make tools like that broken spear we found might be willing to talk, but it's not always the case. We'd also be lucky to find a common language between us."

Era'when silently follows the group wherever they go. Unfortunately, he knows nothing of Kuo-Toa either [At least, I'm pretty sure he doesn't!]
