Chapter Three, Hidden in The Hidden Fortress |
Lead | |
|
In the middle of the Bright Desert, passing through many obstacles, you have finally located the hidden fortress, the goal of your current trip to this accursed land. Exploring the tower floor by floor, you cannot help but be disappointed by the sheer boredom it grants... until now. The room is identical to the above floors, but there is one narraw corridor leading to the west, darker than usual.

"Given a choice between boredom," muses Corian, "and deathly threat...I think I'd take the boredom. I would not speak for any of you, but I for one am grateful for the quiet and the ease of our journey thus far. What say you, though? The corridor, or further down?"

Ythan shrugs. "I would say the corridor, since I wouldn't want to leave something behind us that could either prove useful later, or cut off our escape."

Taes thinks for a moment then looks up at his companions. "I agree with Ythan on this one. Even though something could ascend the stairs to trap us, I believe the wiser course of actoin is to fully explore this level before we descend to the next one."

The ceiling of the passage is low, being only barely six feet in height. The corridor continues on a straight course for about twenty feet before ending in a stoutly bound door. A small amount of sand has collected at the base of the door.

Peering through the dark corridor at the door in the flickering torchlight, Corian comments, "'tis likely that this simply leads to an "outside" door, or a chamber buried in sand. In either case, 'tis likely to gain us nothing and at worst be a trap...whether by design or by accident. If we must pass through this portal, I'd recommend tying my rope off to the handle and pulling it open from a distance, so as not to be buried in onrushing sand."

"I am inclined to agree with Corian. This has all the markings of an outside door. I say we return to the stairs without opening it." Taes says.

"Do as you will with that door...but I'm going to see if I can find any less obvious ways of egress." With that, Era'when begins carefully examining walls, floors, and ceilings for signs of secret passages and traps.
[OOC: Sorry, still on vacation. I have my nice 16 hour flight back to Japan tomorrow and then I'll be back to normal.] |

While the rest of the group debates on the course of action to be taken regarding the door, Narthos sniffs around the passage, picking up some sands near the door, sniffs some more, then runs back to Taes, starts to pull him away from the passage.
Meanwhile, Era'when searches around this floor, and discovers that there are doors concealed all around the wall. They are covered by Illusionary spells to make them look like, well, wall. |

Turning to Narthos Taes gets a questioning look on his face and shrugs while shaking his head.

"Well, friends, as I suspected...there are many more exits than we realized. Minor magicks hide them from the most casual observers." He snickers a bit. "So...now which way will we go," he says with a smile.

Re: Chapter Three, Hidden in The Hidden Fortress | ||

Narthos speaks something that sounds like gibberish, and stops, starts to making wild hand gestures and body movements. First he puts his hands together at fingertip forming a tip of some sort, then points at the door, gestures as though opening the door, and returns to the triangle like shape then swings his hand out like an exposion, and says, "BOOOOM!" He throws the little bit of sand he picked up earlier in his own face, and falls down face up, but his facial expression shows that he is trying to show he's gasping for breath. After lying there for a few seconds still, he gets up, and backs away from the corridor.

"Err...is he ok?" Thinking that the little guy might be trying to signal the presence of a trap, Era'when examines the door to see if he can find any...approaching very carefully and looking along the way for trap-triggers there, as well.

"Uhh, yea. I think he is OK. But I think you might not want to go poking around there." Taes says as Era'when starts examining the door. As he says this he follows Narthos's lead and backs off a bit.
Turning and looking at Narthos he smiles and nods, while backing off. |

Era'when carefully examines the door, and finds nothing that suggests that the door is trapped, mechanical or magical.

"There's nothing here to be worried about! I do wonder what he's trying to tell us though. Well, do you guys want to know what he has to say right now, or later? I can find out once a day!"
[OOC: If the group approves, Era'when will cast comprehend languages and try to get Narthos to repeat what he said earlier.] |

Re: ... | ||

Ythan speaks up. "He's trying to say that he thinks there's enough sand piled up behind that door that it will fill this hallway, killing him and us. Maybe we should try one of these other doors you found."

Re: ... | ||

"Trap or no, it seems obvious that we should seek beyond the hidden doors, and not the obvious one, to find what we are looking for. Let us be about it, then. Era'when, have you a preference amongst your illusionary doors?"
|

Re: ... | ||

"Oh yes...the heat must have gotten to me. But does sand really do that? I mean, regardless, it's pointless to open the door, but I imagine that it would have piled up so tightly over the years that it might be more like stone than like water. It matters not, I suppose...and desserts? deserts?" he seems to have difficulty with the worrd and finally just says in elvish, "sabaku are not my realm of expertise."
Era'when shrugs and makes his way back to the central room...he then starts with the door and begins singing in elvish as he points to a different door on each syllable, ending up 27 doors from the pathway going in clockwise order. "My amazing powers of deduction have led me to this door!" he announces with a wry grin on his face. He then begins examining the door for traps, markings, keyholes, etc. Glancing over his shoulder at the others, "I suppose you'll want to check the outside of all of them before really picking one though, won't you?" [OOC: After finishing with this door, Era'when will set to checking out the others.] |

Re: ... | ||

Era'when examines the door, and find the door has nothing of interest, be it markings, key holes, or even traps. There are also no visible handles, but it's obvious these doors have to be pushed open. He does detect more Abjuration magic on the door, however, and it seems to have secured the door shut.

Re: ... | ||

"Hmm...looks to be magically sealed and I've not the magic to break it," he announces after checking the first door. "Well, on to the next..."
