The benifits of higher level spells are just too great. If you can survive to get a level of archmage, your wizard is unstopable. A good friend of mine was fighting an NPC Human Fighter15 with his Moon Elf Wizard10 (alone, no help) and he wiped the floor with the guy! First he cast IMPROVED INVISIBILITY on himself followed by HASTE and STONE SKIN. He then followed that up with SLOW, CURSE (50% no action), and ICE STORM on the fighter. The fighter couldn't find him to hit him and got cut apart by the wizard's rapier! I LOVE WIZARDS. THEY KICK A$$!

Posts: 742 (06/20/02 22:24:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	In stark contrast to my last post: My brother played a multiclass Dwarven Fighter1/Evoker5 with a powerful magical warhammer and a suit of heavy armor. He was every bit as tough as a fightig dwarf (albeit fewer hit points) and would resort to magic to back up his combat abilities, make up for his weaknesses, and to wipe out whole lines of enemies! His charater was simply a dwarven librarian/historian (which he hated beng) that stumbled upon an old spellbook. In order to fend off the boredom of his job he ended up teaching himself magic. It was a great sight to see everybody's faces when the tough little dwarven fighter with the big hammer just launched a fireball down their throat!!! He later became a master in making magical weapons and armor both on the forge and in the wizard's tower. If it is done right, multiclassing can be loads of fun!

How did he cast in heavy armor? A 10th level wizard could kick the crap out of a 10th level fighter... If the fighter is a complete idiot.

Posts: 4873 (06/21/02 11:41:12) Local user Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The rogue/ranger/barb/fighter mentioned would be an excellent tank--the ranger/barb/fighter combo is one of the best for pure combat--add two rogue levels and you get a ton of skills and evasion. I would play that PC, especially at higher levels where all the fighter bonus feats begin to kick in. this PC has: skills up the wazoo for a warrior evasion sneak attack +1d6 ambidexterity 2WF track favored enemy access to ranger-spell magic items fast movement rage uncanny dodge on average, fighter HP only 1 less than fighter BAB awesome saves bonus feats at high levels this is an overall far superior PC compared to a straight fighter of the same level. true, the straight fighter could be optimized to excel at one narrow field of combat, such as sundering. but always remember the specialist is giving up flexibility in other areas--and an evil DM will always exploit your weaknesses. right, MerricB? due to the EZ-board screw up, you must add 2,201 to the post total for an accurate count.
