(It basically represents that it is difficult to get in a shot on someone who is sticking a sword in your face, or is otherwise well trained to fight unarmed.)
It does not matter if the person moving through your threatened space is armed or not, they will provoke an AoO because they are moving through a space you threaten (it is irrelevant if they are armed or not).
The real issue here is, do you threaten the area around you if you are unarmed?
I say yes, others say no.
