It was explained in some of my campaigns that the god of a cleric w/o one of the PHB gods followed a minor or local god. AND WHATS THE DEAL WITH SUNE BEING A FALSE GOD!!! SHANDRI WILL LASH YOU FOR THAT!!! tee hee.

I don't have a huge problems with Godless clerics. There's plenty of demons, devils, celestials, slaads, etc.. etc.. out there, ready to grant powers to those who devoutly follow a lifepath similar to those. The idea that only the Gods can grant divine spells and power actually goes against accepted D&D cosmology.
Then again, I have no problems with DMs dissallowing such clerics, and would gladly play in such a DM's game. But it's far from unexplainable how Godless clerics can exist. "Never kick a dog because it's just a pup, you better run for cover when the pup grows up." -Gavroche |

actually, according to Deities and Demigods, demons and such can NOT grant powers, but can only act as intermediaries between PC clerics and an actual god. No divine rank = no spells granted, unless you want to go into optional rules to accomodate it.
due to the EZ-board screw up, you must add 2,201 to the post total for an accurate count. |
