3EBB Deck of Many Things Variant. |

I was just reading a thread on the Deck of Many Things - a most nasty but cool thing indeed. I thought it may be interesting if between the 3EBB Community that we could come up with a variant deck.
It would be cool if everyone designed a card and everyone could see/use the finished set. |

My thoughts on this... | ||
|
I think that the best way to go about designing your own deck is:
1) Think of all the stats/types of things the PCs can have. 2) Think of the ways these can be given to/taken away from them. 3) Create cards based around these methods. 4) Make some cards more powerful than others. 5) Personally, I wouldn't have the "must draw again" on any card. And there's your deck. So, lets start with things that can be given/taken: Money Experience Weapons Magic Life Str/Dex/Con/Int/Wis/Cha Innate Abilities/Traits Race/Gender If anyone has more, lets hear them! Then onto the next stage. |

I just thought up a card.. You get +10 to all stats, saves, bonuses, skills, you are proficient with all weapons for 24 hours, and then you die.

That's the idea! | ||
|
And in addition, we can add random cards from people's good ideas. I like that card Seph, but possibly we could make it "die without chance of mortal resurrection", having some kind of way of avoiding this fate, like killing 50 Kobolds and eating them. Whole. (Will save DC 34 to resist going insane after that).
Seriously though, who else has got a card for us, aside from the mandatory "lose 1000xp and draw again"? |

i have an idea :
basically the card "mirrors" the users stats anbout 15 so that 16 would become 14 and 5 would become 25 (i was thinking of doing this aorund ten but its too restrictive, making it only useful for the weaker races, this way its more fun) this card would basically destroy any character as their good stats would become thier worst and vice versa so that bararian now has 6 dex, 5 strength but 27 charisma Teach a man to fish, you've fed him for a day, beat the living crap out of him and steal his shoes, and he'll learn not to beg |

hmmm..a card, a card...my kingdom for a card..
with shaking hand, a slow draw of the card.. the card depicts a...(roll on table preset by dm) for example, bugbear. character becomes a bugbear in all respects excepting the personality. this differs from actual polymorph spell as char would gain any special abilities inherent to new form. !oddnoggle Now is the winter of our discontent...made glorious summer by this son of York.

Why are these double posts so far apart in time? And Rod, I don't get what the hey-hey-hey you're talking about.

Re: That's the idea! | ||

rod's card works as such:
12 str 17 dex 15 con 10 int 18 wis 12 cha afterwards you would have 18 str 13 dex 15 con 20 int 12 wis 18 cha the process is to take the score and take the difference between 15 and the original score and add the difference to 15. 15 -12 str ---- 3 new str = 15+3=18 15 -18 wis --- -3 new wis = 15+(-3)=12 it works for his two examples as well. -------------------------------
Only God will give you answers less often than I. |

This card would only work for the roleplayers, not the rollplayers, but...
Card Name : Cruel Mockery Card Picture : Typical Joker/King's Fool/whatever, the guy in the stripped suit with the hat with multiple points that all end in bells, you know what I'm talking about.. Anyway, that guy wearing a mask that looks as though it is laughing and crying at the same time. Effect : Person who draws this card is granted perfection in their class (Full ranks in all class skills, full hitpoints per hit-die, whatever the DM determines perfection in their class means) but is eternally denied the character's true desires. Basically, this card always ends up in misery. Knight rescues princess, only to have her end up dead a day later, Mage aquires massive library and solitude, only to have reading glasses break .. well, you get the point.. (Special thanks to the Twighlight Zone for that last example) __________________________________

Some cards:
The last person you spoke to before drawing dies. The next person you will speak to after drawing dies. Switch your highest and lowest stat. Gain one extra sorcerer spell of the highest level known -- but if you are not a sorcerer, lose a level. Gain one extra fighter bonus feat -- but if you are not a fighter, lose a level. Your deity grants you a Miracle spell with no XP loss -- but if you are not a cleric, lose a level. Make a wish, and it will come true -- and it comes true doubly so for the next person to wound you in anger. Kill the next person you see, no matter who it is, and gain a level instantly. Fail to kill them immediately, and lose a level. Gain an inherent +5 to any ability score, as if through level advance. Lose an inherent -5 from any ability score. Gamble with Death: roll a single d20. If your unmodified score is higher than the DM's single d20 roll, you will have True Resurrection cast upon you immediately upon dying, one time only, the next time you die, even if you die in a way which prevents any resurrection. If you roll equal to or less than the DM's roll... you die instantly, and no mortal magic can raise you. You gain the extraordinary ability that you see everything as if by a divine True Seeing spell, but are forever deafened, with no hope of restoration. You gain the ability to speak and understand any verbal language, but you are forever blinded without any hope of restoration. Gain a breath weapon, as though a half-dragon. If you already have a breath weapon, gain another. You are cursed to attract all vermin who sense you, until you prove yourself worthy to a god. Your god deserts you for a year and a day: draw again. Lose all earned ranks in a random skill. You are instantly stricken dead and are instantly transformed into a powerful undead creature... if you are already undead, you are destroyed as if by a high-level cleric's turn. The next monk to whom you speak becomes a loyal cohort. Name any treasure, and you are instantly transported to it... and whatever is guarding it. Choose a profession: from this point on, you will always have free ranks (up to level maximum) in this profession, plus free skill focus, but you lose all earned ranks in every other profession and can never add future ranks in any other profession. Ask one question of the universe, and receive the true and complete answer. All armor and weapons currently in your posession become cursed. Every day, one of your ability scores becomes a 3. Each day, a random ability is chosen. Only a god can end this cycle. You have gift with animals: all animals behave as though Animal Friendship were cast upon them by you. But if you ever kill an animal, you are forever cursed to be attacked by every animal you encounter. A chest containing 25,000 platinum pieces appears before you, and word of your wealth spreads quickly to all unscrupulous ears. The last 5 creatures you killed come back to haunt you. You receive sudden fame: everywhere you go, people know your name, your face, and your deeds... good and bad. Every time you go into battle, flip a coin: heads -- a host of celestials appear, tails -- a host of fiends appear. They remain until the battle is lost or won, and one or the other will continue to appear every battle -- until you convince a Neutral god to intervene. Draw two cards, but choose which one to keep and which to discard harmlessly. you see, once you get a post total up into the multi-thousands, at some point the counter rolls over... |

Name: ?
Picture: A mage with a giant head and tiny body, and a warrior with the build of the Thing (from Fantastic 4) drooling. Effect: Highest stat gets +5, Lowest stat gets -5. Cleanliness is next to godliness. And the chip shop is next to the hair dresser's. It doesn't persuade me to visit either. |

That's a lot of cards...
|
Well, GSFB has managed to create an entire deck. Wow. Who has more cards?
By the way, "Ask one question of the universe, and receive the true and complete answer" could cause me a lot of problems. PC: "What's the meaning of life?" Me: "Er..." *runs* Like that 'Reversal'/'Mirror' card Rod, would really screw up those people who dump 4s and 5s in the stats they 'didn't need'. Munchkins, I'm talking about you. Actually, that card would destroy my players... |

Re: That's a lot of cards...

Ah, the one and complete answer isn't too hard
PC: What's the meaning of life? DM: Your character now knows the meaning of life. It is explained to you in such a way that, while you may not be able to put it in words again, you know. I've had players figure out Cold Fusion as jokes before. PC: I wish I knew how to make a Cold Fusion Reactor DM: Okay, you now know how it works. PC: Cool.. I write it down, then burn it, as it's useless information.. what the *heck* is a guy in platemail gonna use a cold fusion reactor for anyway..? (well, something like that, but the heck was probably another word, probably starting with an F) Then again, I had odd PCs... __________________________________

Q - "What is the meaning of life?"
A - "You do not receive an answer in words, but you DO receive a complete and true answer. You feel a surge of power within you, and receive a calmness and serentity never before imagined..." DM to player: your PC has just transcended into a higher form. He disappears from this universe and is now one with the gods. He is no longer part of the campaign setting. Start rolling 4d6. Remember kids, if you are afraid of the answer, DON'T ASK THE QUESTION! Muahahahahaha!!!! A little knowledge can be a very sucky thing... Maybe next time you will ask something more appropriate... you see, once you get a post total up into the multi-thousands, at some point the counter rolls over... |

A card that would undo EVERY effect gained from previously drawn card(s). Also known as the "reset" card.

A card that does nothing to he who draws it, but compels the next person he sees to draw, willing or not.

Re: Some Cards | ||

Stat-switch card:
Roll 1d3 twice. Once for the physical stats, once for the mental stats. The two that you choose, switch the scores (applying any racial penalties/bonuses). This is permanent, except for diety interseccion (like some other cards). For example, if a character has 15 Str, 13 Dex, 12 Con, 8 Int, 11 Wis, and 13 Cha, and you rolled a 1 and a 2 (physical first, then mental), then the stats would be 11 Str, 13 Dex , 12 Con , 8 Int, 15 Wis, 13 Cha. This can be dangerous for some classes (like switching Int and Str for a wizard). |
