Posts: 1514 (02/11/02 14:26:07) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Just a curious question, what was the most shameless cameo you've ever ripped from another RPG? I've pulled the Chocobo, the Mog, and several Quest For Glory characters (anybody remember the Sheriff's goon, and Baba Yaga from QG1?)before. As of now in my current oriental campaign, (I'll have to give it to them. Even though some of the stuff in OA I find hard to swallow, the actual bulk of the stories and backdrops are very interesting and very well written...) just about every character in the Chinese 3 kingdom's era... eventually. Oh yeah, I'm also pulling Murray the talking skull from Monkey Island.

In a Planescape campaign I was running, the PCs encountered the heroes from the Warcraft II expansion wandering about the streets of Sigil. I meant for it to just be a cameo, but the PCs ended up making it into a major plot and eventually were able to return the Warcraft characters to Azeroth. -Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die.-

She's originally from a russian legend, and has appeared in many RPGs. If I'm not mistaken, TSR themselves had a module titled "Baba Yaga's hut".. Nasty, evil, dangerous module. The name of that band? Karn Johnny, Monkey, Fielder, Dave and Noggin, the wandering, starving minstrels. I think they killed them later.. __________________________________ Some girl with psychic powers, she said "Hey, ST, what's your sign?" I blink and answer neon.. I thought I'd blow her mind.

Posts: 192 (02/11/02 21:32:22) Banned User Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	FF VI: Terra, Shadow, Chocobos, Cid, Kefka, Edgar, Figaro (Army, unique castle), The Empire (Armies, magitek, insignia, and related items), Opera House, Ultros (Passing reference), That crazy guy that lives north of Kohlingen, About a half-dozen enemies, Probably a couple I forgot DOOM: Arachnatron, Spider Mastermind (These were never actually seen by players, but the game was cut short) This was only in my Monte Haul game. There will be many more FF VI/DOOM references in my next game.

They brought him back for Monkey Island 4. He's so EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEvil! Murry: I will stride through the gates of Hell... Guybrush: Stride? Murry: Ok...roll through the gates of Hell...MUHAHAHAHA!!! They also brought back a lot of the characters from the first Monkey Island. His original crew is back. I sorta used a Stan-like character as an undead salesman. He owned Fast Eddie's(changed the name, but used Stan's personality) Previously Owned Bodies. He was a necromancer of course. He sold the PC's a small army of skeletons and a remote control that makes them work. He also sold them a special zombie named Steve. Steve was a sorta recurring character in my adventures. I've used a few characters from some of the D&D novels like Alias from FR, Fizban and Lord Soth from DL. I also made an adventure based on the old arcade hit Dragon's Lair. They teamed up with a bumbling paladin named Dirk the Daring to rescue a princess from an evil dragon. The dragon was different however. It was a female dragon named Jade...she was half green and half black dragon, and had the breath weapons of both parents. Dirk died pretty early in the adventure, but the PC's survived and rescued the princess. But they only injured Jade leaving her with one arm. Needless to say, the fact that they never slew the dragon came back to haunt them many times. Every now and then she would turn up cuz she was ever on the hunt for them, and she would always seem to turn up at the worst possible times. They never did kill her. Well, this was "back in the day," when we were in Junior High, but the PCs ran into a wandering pack of Greater Wolfweres who were also "thrash-bards" and called themselves Metallica. In the campaign I'm currently running, an Oriental Adventures campaign based around the Emperor's Court, a few of the NPC courtiers were inspired by characters from the Samurai Shodown video game (Tachibana Ukyo, Yagyu Jubei), and a few others are from Rurouni Kenshin (Saito Hajime, Shinomori Aoshi, Hiko Seijuro, Anji the Destroyer). Many of these characters have actual historical counterparts, so I don't feel so bad... plus the fact that I needed over 50 NPCs to fill out the Court, so I took what I could find.

My most shameless one though would have to be when they were accidentally teleported to Gen Con, where they were thought to be just gamers in good costumes. I once had one of my parties kill off Hank from the dungeons and dragons cartoon. That was great fun. They were in an alternative cartoon dimension where people couldn't be killed so they paid some people to repeatedly chop off his head until they got him somewhere they could actually kill him. That was ace.

A BAR! So anyway, we had to go there, order the house special, and pay the bartender in a specific form of currency, then he'd arrange for our contact to meet us there. The house special? A Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. -------------------------------------- If they take away our guns, can we go back to using swords?

There was also a religious order who were basically Jedi... psychic swords and such. I had an NPC fighter named 'Thordamere of the Auburn Tunic'... the auburn tunic being a joke on Star Trek red shirts from the original series.

Posts: 59 (02/20/02 21:31:34) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	It was a cameo only because the game was so short, but I actually played Minsc from Baldur's Gate in a game, complete with Boo. Copied all the stats right off the records page in the game. DM was fine with it, and it was actually great fun for as long as the game lasted. (Durned people's work schedules interferring with my entertainment! Fie!) I also started a game at one point where I started running a small group of PC's through the plot/world/etc of Baldur's Gate with a few changes here and there so they wouldn't immeadiately (sp) be the wiser about it. Unfortunately, my own work shedule got in the way of that one, but I plan to start it up again. At the time, no one that was playing had actually ever laid a hand on baldur's gate, and a couple claimed to 'hate' it, even never having interacted with it, which is sort of why I chose to run that as an adventure in the first place.... IMO it's has a really good story line, great character developement, a full world to adventure through, and damn near perfect advancement (tho there are a few places I found you can get quite munchy if you work the system, like the flesh golem cave). I don't know what else one could ask for in a Computer RPG. There I go ramblng again, getting rather off topic... heh.

Also in the group was a fighter named Hercules, based on........you guessed it, Hercules! Really stong, but really dumb. Kinof funny too because the guy playing him was from Brooklyn, accent and all. His catch phrase..."No one F@#%$ wit' Herc!" It was a fun game though. *Couldn't make it as a wiseman...Couldn't cut it as a poor man stealin'...* Cleric 1/Rogue 1/Fighter 18 *DTTWBAFUtPbPC President Jahx*

Human, elven, dwarven, didn't matter, his stats were always the same. He was there for when someone forgot their character sheet, or we wanted to do a quick game and someone didn't feel like rolling up a new character.. I put him in the game to die several times.
