Based on this information:

1) Since some towers are quite short, it can be reasonably assumed that short towers (in the 100' range) likely do not even rise entirely out of "the depths".

2) Due to both considerable tapering AND to some towers being short, I think you can assume that some towers actually START in the Middle and Upper cities and go upwards from there, either floating outright or buttressed like all get out from every neighboring tower as they arch upwards.

3) The Lower City is basically one solid foundation pressed solid against another, against another, etc...with the in-between spaces filled with debris and rubble.

4) Even despite #2 above, the Upper City is pretty widely spread out.


Based on the picture on page 11 (which, admittedly, is NOT to scale), I don't think it's too hard to imagine the city's layers being roughly thirds of the height of the city. I'd also take the "mile high" to be an unusual exception.

So, for the sake of argument, let's break it down thusly:

Upper City: 3000' to 4500' (max typical tower height) with some up to 5000'
Middle City: 1500' to 3000'
Lower City: 100' to 1500'
The Depths: -300' to 100'
The Cogs: -800' to -300'

(the dividing line between the Depths and Cogs is VERY roughly defined).

Let us also assume some standardization (for a basic rule you can vary from).

Lower City: 10' stories, 7' ceilings.
Middle City: 12' stories, 9' ceilings.
Upper City: 15' stories, 12' ceilings.

So:

A typical Lower City tower section would be from 800' to 2500' in diameter, and be 150 10' stories tall.

A typical Middle City tower section would be from 500' to 1000' in diameter, and be 125 12' stories tall.

A typical Upper City tower section would be from 200' to 600' in diameter, and be 100 15' stories tall.


Taking the maps on pages 37, 43, and 49 literally should tell you how many towers each district has in it. Take Ocean View (page 37) for example. I count 11 towers in total making up the Ocean View area.

Directly below that, however (page 43) are the 20 towers of Little Barrington. The map seems at odds with the description, with wider towers in the Upper City. I'm not sure what to make of this, save to either take the maps literally (and assume the upper towers widen out from, and sit atop, several smaller lower towers), or to take the descriptions literally (and, for argument sake, swap much of the middle and upper maps).

All in all, a single tower of Sharn, top to bottom and through 3 districts, would be around 375 stories in height, perhaps 1000' in average diameter, and take a lifetime to map out in any level of detail.
