I am considering some house rules to make the sorcerer class more attractive. Since these represent a net gain to the sorcerer class, relative to the other clases, I thought I'd post my thoughts here first and see what people think. I think these options still retain balance.
1. Sorcerers gain Survival and all Charisma-based skills as class skills.
2. Sorcerers gain one more spell known of each level than is indicated on the Sorcerer Spells Known table. Thus, a 5th level sorcerer would know 7 0-level, 5 1st-level, and 3 2nd-level spells.
3. Any time a sorcerer "upgrades" a spell (e.g. sleep to deep slumber, or invisibility to improved invisibility) he may (if he chooses) immediately trade in the lower level spell for a different spell. This is in addition to the normal spell trading allowed.
4. A sorcerer may trade in a spell known for a new spell every level, instead of every other level.
5. A sorcerer does not need to spend a full-round action to add a metamagic feat to a spell.
I think these changes are relatively minor, and should not change the balance of power. But I think they will make a sorcerer more interesting to play as both a PC and an NPC.
Any thoughts, observations, or cries of outrage?
I don't live in a fantasy world.
I only work there.
