My group was playing through a dungeon crawl when we came upon a tunnel that went through the floor about 1 foot in diameter. We have a barbarian (human), a rogue(elf), and a druid (elf), all level 12. The druid changed into a small viper to og down the tunnel and eventually came to an underground lake. There was something in the water, but he couldn't tell what it was. The druid wanted to cast spells, but we couldn't decide if the druid could cast spells when in a wild shape, and there was not enough room without actually entering the water to turn back into an elf. We did not find any clear answer regarding spells during a wild shape in the PHB.
