True, at higher levels walls can be made bigger, but on the bigger board there is much more area to cover.

In order to place an effective wall across the current board, it need be only 5 ft high and 40 ft long (8 five foot squares). To place an effective wall across a board that's twice as wide requires a wall 10 ft high and 80 ft long (32 five foot squares). For a board three times as wide (i.e. one that allows huge creatures), a wall 15 ft high and 120 ft long is required (72 five foot squares). In each case, the increase in the size of the board requires not only an increase in the length of the wall (to stretch across the board) but also an increase in the height of the wall (to block the movement of the larger creatures that a larger board allows).

On the other hand, as casters go up in level, they generally only get an additional 5 foot square or 4 five foot squares per level (depending on the spell). This means that each time the size of the board is increased it takes several levels for the caster's ability to span the board to catch up.

The current board can be spaned by a 2nd level caster with a 10 square feet per level wall, or an 8th level caster with a 5 square feet per level wall (4th if its one of the ones you can thin out to make larger).

The Large board requires a 8th level caster to span it with a 10 square feet per level wall, or a 32nd level caster with a 5 square feet per level wall (16th if its one of the ones you can thin out to make larger).

The Huge board requires a 18th level caster to span it with a 10 square feet per level wall, or a 72nd level caster with a 5 square feet per level wall (36th if its one of the ones you can thin out to make larger).

Only wall of fire, which has a fixed height (20ft) and has its length determined by level (20ft per level) can easily span all three boards (requiring only a 6th level caster to span the Huge board).

On top of this area issue, the larger boards have are in the open (at least the one from the last tournament was). So with the right selection of creatures, going over the wall is always possible. In the confines of the inn, that's a little harder to do.

So, while the walls themselves may be tougher at higher levels, I generally stand by my assessment that given the tight confines of the current tournament, walls are actually more powerful than they would be on the larger boards.
