We are a sizable, long-standing D&D group looking to add an arcane caster to our ranks.

Our campaign is in a homebrew D&D milieu and the game is played online via OpenRPG. Session day is Friday night and the game time is from 6:30 pm EST until 11:00 PM EST.

The campaign is a low-level, low-power game. The emphasis is less on combat and more on skills and roleplay. Experience progression is slow but subject to player modification. If the group takes chances and survives, they level up faster. If they play it safe but really explore their characters (and the environment) in so doing, they might also level quickly.

In this campaign, defeating an enemy is not achieved solely by cutting them down. Combat experience can be earned even if the enemy is left alive and unharmed. The idea is to overcome the enemy as an obstacle and not, necessarily, to kill them.

It is a low-magic item campaign. While magic is common, genies serve drinks, wizard priests rule nations and guilds of magic using warriors abound, not much exists in the way of magic items beyond expendables (potions and scrolls). Magic items do exist but they are not sold in stores nor are they found in abundance. Likewise, treasure is as rare or as common as circumstances dictate. Defeating dire rats yields no treasure while overcoming brigands in their lair might yield plenty. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.

The campaign relies heavily upon skills and character interaction. Players who are unwilling to interact with the characters of other players or NPCs will level much slower than actively participating players. Challenges are designed with the party in mind and thusly require maximum participation from every character and not just one or two. Characters who are maximized solely for combat may find their lack of versatility an impediment in leveling.

All new characters will start at 1st level. This is not open to debate. The campaign itself is relatively new (the other characters having only recently reached 2nd level) and therefore new players will not be at any great disadvantage, power-wise. Character creation method will be explained in greater detail to those answering this call.

It is crucial that interested players read and follow the rules outlined on the following boards, under the forum entitled "New Players":

There will be a space to leave contact information. That contact information should include the following information:
Handle or Player name (both, ideally)
Method of contact via e-mail, ICQ or MSN Messenger only. AIM or Yahoo account contacts are of no use to us.
Character idea (character class)

The campaign is new but the game world is well-established and long-running (approaching 4 years this year). As a result, there are many changes to the core rules as well as adjustments in game mechanics and playable classes and races. New players are expected to know the appropriate rules relating to their chosen class and race but will be given a chance to learn additional information about the gaming milieu as the game progresses. You are not expected to understand the entire history of the world, nor the changes to the world since game play began but you should have an idea of who your character is and what his relation is to the world around him.

The group consists of a solid core of gaming veterans experienced with both current and past versions of the D&D game system. As such, we have developed a few quirks and idiosyncrasies. Because of this, we are recommending that interested players sit in or "try-out" characters before joining the game. If the game is not to your liking or or game style is unappealing to you, this will save all of us any wasted time and effort. Once you have watched or NPCed a few sessions, if you are still interested, character creation may begin.

WARNING!
This campaign is ill-suited to half-dragon psionicists, drow anything and aasimar sorcerers. If the class or race you want is not on the official campaign website, it is unavailable for play. Please do not request any such characters to be added. Players are expected to have access to the 3.5 PHB or the 3.5 SRD. The core rule books are the ONLY rule books used in this campaign. Any exceptions, additions or expansions to this have been noted in the campaign information on the Calameet website.

If you have made it this far, you have already taken a huge step toward joining our adventuring group. the demands listed above may seem overwhelming but, in truth, they are representative of the gaming environment we foster and enjoy. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
