"Yes, bad for buisness. . ." She trails off, still staring at the person.
"I come with a simple question. You have probably at least seen Mask's domain, and you would surely know of the denizens of the dark plane. Would you know of the Ghirrash?"

Zanas stares at this person for a long time.

"I? No...but I know of a scholar of planar matters, one who would assuredly know more of the creature you seek. Five will get you a name, five more directions. What say you?" (Valarion) "I have no further questions. I have no doubt that I will surpass any whom you have mentioned, and expect to do likewise should you undertake others. If, indeed, you seek to establish a new Enclave, you will require the aid of other Red Wizards, a significant opportunity." He considers for a moment. "As to your present endeavor, do you require my aid, Master? Or shall I see to settling my affairs, and those of this fellow, in your absence?" He gestures to the still-delerious man within the cage. |

"I do require as much assistants as possible," Valarion replies, "It is a dangerous trip and thus in number we will have a stronger advantage; however it is in a confind location underground, so too many wouldn't help. I'd like to ask what kind of spells are you able to perform at this point? Also..."
Valarion turns again his attention towards the iron cage, "If I am not mistaken this man is Baris Whittle? He is also among the appretices that I may recruit. I will have to see if he's actually of any use, but for starters, what is the legal procedure according to Thayan laws for me to release and acquire this man?" |

"If you claim him, he is, by law, yours to punish as you see fit. That you had not done so yet left his punishment to the discretion of the Khazark, and this was what he had decided. As you say, he is Baris Whittle, and if you wish to take him into service, you can free him, or leave him there, or do whatever else you feel is appropriate for the risk and harm he has brought to this Enclave." "As for my ability to assist...I had not anticipated battle this day, but am as well prepared as I might. I have several summonings available, and more still should it prove necessary." At this, he briefly shows an ebony wand tucked within his robe sleeve. "I have a few abjurations prepared as well. They are mostly focused on conjurative acts, but they have other uses as well." |

"Very well, then you should accompany me down and test your arcane mights. As for him, we'll deal with him later, I doubt he'll be of much use given our previous... encounter. After I locate my companions, we can be on our way." With that, Valarion goes and looks for Qayan and Khasar

"THIRTEEN HUNDRED!!!" Khasar asks incredulously. "In Thayan credits no less. I do not think you know what we had to go through to get these. We lost a good dwarf down there. Thirteen hundred is an insult to his ghost. You need to double that before we can even start haggleing, my friend."

The diviner seems quite taken back by Khasar's outburst, and does not answer for a while, though his hand does seem to be clutching at an object concealed within his robes. When he does, at the last, compose himself, he replies, "It sseemss that you have ssome ssort of misstaken impressssion. Your lossss doess not make theesse more valueable. Otherss may wish to deal with you, but I no longer dessire it. Leave my sshop, and sseek your buyer elssewhere." (Valarion) "The ones you entered the Enclave with? They have gone to seek out the diviner. I spied them in passing on my way hither. It is that way. I shall meet you, then, at the gates." With that, Salvistin departs for the living quarters of the resident wizards and apprentices. |

Looking equally taken back at the diviners words Khasar stumbles through his thoughts. "What? Leave?... Your serious aren't you? Ok we are leaving. Can you recommend any where else we might try?"

The diviner gives no response, simply turning to leave by the door he came in through. To Qayan's eye, he seems to be leaving fairly quickly as well. |

As Khasar exits the diviners store he storms back in the direction he came from. As he walks down the street he is silent, his face clouded over in a rage equal parts anger and embaressment at having acted the fool in front of Qayan and the diviner. Spying Valarion, Khasar stalks over to him.
"What is with you people? You do not even know how to do buisness? You offer a man a pittance then kick him out of your store when he tries to get an honest price out of you?!?" Khasar demands, then quickly corrects himself. "Bah. I am sorry Valarion, I am not mad at you, just frustrated at not knowing how your kind do buisness. Did you get what we needed? Qayan seems to be in a foul mood. I think this waiting is grating on him. I would be back underground as soon as we can." |

Re: Chapter 2P: Final Preparations | ||

"Yes... I have acquired aids in the form of a Conjuration specialist, if that's what you meant." Valarion frowns a bit at Khasar's sudden outburst. "If you cannot liquidate the items, perhaps we shouldn't waste anymore time if we already have what we need. Just a note, however, Thayans seek to domin... secure most of the market in magical goods trades, and thus normally it is already the best price you will ever find, especially from merchants residing in a Thayan Enclave, assuming they follow the rules. Which is why bargaining illogically is great offense to them. But we'll deal with that later."
Valarion leads Qayan and Khasar to the gate to meet up with Salvistin. After brief introductions, they quickly travel back to the temple. |

As the troop walks towards the gate Khasar continues his economic discussion with Valarion. "so you just give the highest price you can? How do you make money? You must charge a lot more to make up for it. I do not understand how you can take pride in overpaying for an item. Where is the skill in that?"

She sets the coins down, waiting for an answer. |

"There's a fellow over in the Hall of Harmonious Healers...a scholar of countless many matters and a man of seemingly limitless talents. He goes by the name of Meecham. The Hall is found in the poor quarter, and nearly any beggar and vagabond in the area can point you in the right direction. They've done good work for those who lack in coin." The Answerer pauses for a moment, then continues, "As to the other matter...what other guild are you interested in asking about?" |

Qayan finally turns from the shadowy acquaintance that met and spoke with him just upon entering the shop. After a brief exchange of faux-pleasantries, the tiefling excuses himself and rejoins his comrade only to realize that their transaction has already been
finalized.
Exiting, Qayan broods and walks quietly with Khasar, joining with Valarion and his new apprentice not long thereafter. Just before leaving for the temple, Qayan suddenly speaks. I must return to the Enclave. May I have the items, Khasar? Ill see what can be had for them. I will rejoin you at the temple before nightfall. The tiefling looks grim. There are certain requirements that must be met if we are to be victorious against our upcoming challenge. It was a pleasure meeting you, Salvistin. Bowing curtly to the newcomer, Qayan then turns back expectantly to Khasar. |

Shaking his head at the savage trade tactics of this land Khasar hands the objects over to Qayan. "Good luck." he mumbles.

Qayan nods and makes his way purposefully to the Enclave once again. There he will seek to pawn/barter the various illithid curiosities (except for the fleshy ropes and the Quallish hides) for the best compensation he can [Appraise +9; Diplomacy +5; Bluff +6; Sense Motive +8]. Additionally, he will attempt to secure the following miscellany and sundries: 5 potions of CLW (250gp), 1 potion of gaseous form (750gp), 1 scroll of arcane lock (175gp), 2 scrolls of comprehend languages (50gp), and the identification of the fleshy ropes. Any other interesting deals that come to his attention he will also consider. Upon securing his laundry list, he will return to the temple post haste.

After asking around for a while, Qayan is able to settle down and do some dealing. Eventually, he manages to discover some information about the bindings (they're semi-aware, able to receive telepathic orders but lacking enough intelligence to act independantly). Further, he is able to get all but two of the curing potions he sought.

"Well, any guild that does not mind followers of Mask, really. However, there is a guild, or at least something, that has an entrance in the sewers. Dimwitted guards, members that would be scared of. . ." She stops.
"Never mind. Sometimes I forget that I'm talking to an Asker. Perhaps the lighted world is softer with its gatherers of information, but that is a chance I've learned not to take." She turns to leave, then back to the Asker. "You are sure you do not know anything about the Illithids here?" She goes out, then heads towards the poor district, asking beggars for specific directions, and giving light amounts of coin to them. |

"Hold a step," the Answerer comments as Zanas stands to leave. "Aye, I know of them...and suspect that you might do well to get in touch with them. The door you mention? Go there again, knock thrice, and when asked inform them that a dark candle lit your way there." To the inquiry of Illithids, however, Zanas still receives naught but silence. A few handfulls of coppers speeds her way to the Hall of the Harmonious Healers. The same worn-looking yet cheerful young man remains at the door, and to your inquiries, guides you up the stairs to Meecham's chambers, but a soft knock yields no reply, and an ear to the door reveals soft snoring. |
