The light of day | ||

A few minutes later, you find yourselves once again within the abandoned warehouse...and moments thereafter, standing once more in the daylight, the smell of blood and dust replaced with the stiff breeze coming in off of the sea.

Qayan leads the group quickly thru the city streets, making his way to the Temple of Moradin. There he requests an audience with Serin Brightshield and/or Khondar of the Keeper. The tiefling appears haggard and battle-worn, but determined.

Khasar follows, moving stiffly as all movement causes his wounds to flare up in pain. Once in the temple Khasar quickly pays his respects to Moradin and follows Qayan.

An acolyte leaves to notify Serin as soon as the group has entered the temple. He is not long in being brought forth.
"Gron'rindul...I had hoped ye would have returned whole and well." Looking upon the rest of you, "Tell me, then...is it done? And how did he meet his end?" |

Re: The taleof the fallen | ||

Khasar looks to his companions, then steps forward. "He fell as the true heroe he was, defending his comrades to the last. We had made our way through the ruins of Sarbreen where we were able to track the ilithid to it's lair. There Valarion and I were ambushed and laid low by the mind flayers. But Gron'rindul and the others came to our aid and we were able to rally. My companions and I succumbed to the mind flayers magic. We would be driven unconcious and rewake later in the battle, but always when we awoke there was Gron'rindul toe to toe with the enemy, protecting our unmoving forms as we struggled to regain our feet. Like an ship in a storm, Gron'rindul was our anchor, and eventually the ilithid fled before us."
Here Khasar pauses for a moment, then resumes "The mind flayer taunted us as it left saying that it had what it had come for and so our victory was of little consequence. Whether that is the truth or not I do not know. I doubt it would have fought as hard as it did if it was finished here, but now is not the time to decide. Enraged by its taunts we marched on exploring the rest of the ruins and finding refugees from tribe of grimlocks we had met earlier. On and on we delved until we came to a room full of mutilated bodies. Women and childern lay slaughtered in that cave, and that too drove us on. So we ventured further down the tunnels searching for the magic gate the ilithids had used to invade the ruins, until eventually we found them. And there Gron'rindul met his doom." Once again Khasar pauses. This time because it is to soon, and the memory is too bitter. "Crouched among the rocks was a beast of shadow, part cat, part man. Swift and deadly, it felled me with a single blow. Into it's six armed fury strode Gron'rindul and Qayan, coming to my aid so that I need not face Tempus in defeat a second time. Gron'rindul raised his axe high and called upon Clangeddin to heal me. I felt the power of Clangeddin flow into me. And, as I rose, Gron'rindul shouted at me to flee, and so I did, as did my companions. One by one we fled the room until, finally, Gron'rindul stood alone with the beast. It was then, as he turned to join us in our retreat that the beast struck him down, pouncing on him it tore through steel and flesh alike. ... ... ... We fled, we were too weak from the battle with the mind flayer to face this beast. We ran so that Gron'rinduls sacrifice would not be in vain, so that we could heal, and prepare, and finally, avenge." Here Khasar stops and waits for Serin to question him further. |

Lowering his head, Seren is silent for a time. "Bring him, then...he will, I am certain, be interred in high honor by the followers of the Silverbeard. As you have lent us aid and, from your telling, have for whatever reason seen the Illithid away from the city above and below, we shall see you made whole before we send you on your way. If the elders within my order do not so-command it, I will see it done personally."

Bowing to the elder dwarf Khasar speaks. "Thank you Lord Seren. My comrades and I are in bad shape and in sore need of rest. Your help is most apperciated. A nights healing and a day to rest is all we require before we return to retrieve Gron'rindul's body. Indeed that is longer than I, we, would like. I shudder to even think of what that creature is doing to Gron'rindul as we speak, but I feel we need the time to plan as well as to heal. I believe that another headlong rush would only serve to deal us another defeat, one that we can ill afford."
Khasar finishes then glances around. "Where would you have us stay?" he askes then stepping closer, "Also, is there a way I might have a word with you after the others are settled in?" |

"If I may, Sir Seren," Valarion asks as Seren would direct them to where he would have the group stay, "Might you grant us insight regarding this creature that we must face to retrieve Gron'rindul's remains? Perhaps we'll be able to formulate a better plan and lower the mortality of this task. From my experience, all I can tell is that it's a Shadow plane dweller, but Zanas has more insight due to her background, and perhaps she can describe it in detail, and you could aid us in knowledge in addition to healing and shelter?"

"Please...I am no lord. I am but an acolyte here in the temple. I shall make inquiries as to your dilema. For the present, please...come...I shall see you to a place where you may rest."
With that, you are taken once again to the chamber of stone benches. |

Qayan quietly stands aside and broods ... his canny mind preoccupied with evaluating the various strategies for dealing with the impending danger below. However, the crimson-eyed tiefling listens and remains alert.
When led to the stone bench chamber, Qayan will loosen his armor, settle down next to a bench, and swiftly fall asleep. |

Here we are again. Wish we could find a better way to attack this dead cave. I can imagine that Ghirrash, sitting in his carnage. Bet he had fun, ripping up all those things. Since when are those real? How could some legend be real? I hope that the tales the Elders spun about those things were bigger than the truth, or we are in great trouble.
With that, Zanas sits in a corner, counting the money and setting aside the gems. She then turns her attention to the pen, "ink," and hides. |

Food, and healing, follow soon thereafter. The serving Dwarf looks very oddly at Zachol and her pile of hides when the meal is brought in.
The "ink" seems to be caustic and painful, but likely not useful as a weapon, save perhaps with the entire vial. Only an Illithid could come up with something so cruelly painful, yet practical, for it's intended purpose. |

"Looks like Qayan is exhausted." Valarion looks at Qayan and the meal left untouched. "If there are no other plans for tonight but rest, then I have to prepare something for tomorrow."
If there are no objections, Valarion will trance for about 1 hour, and spend the rest of the time carefully scribing a spell from a scroll with the prepared materials while others rest. (OOC: Add Dispel Magic to spellbook. Material ready, cost paid.) |

All told, there are 1090 gold and 75 platinum coins in the coffer you recovered...all of them Ravendaar in origin.
As well, there are five small chips of gemstone...an aquamarine, a white opal and three golden yellow topaz...and a thumb-sized, yet raw, piece of alexandrite. All look to be fairly valuable. As Khasar sleeps, he dreams. In his dream, he hears a set of trumpets bursting out in song nearby. Turning, he sees a grim host of warriors...all marching to battle...behind him. These are his men, at his command. A loud voice rings out from all around. "Will you lead the way into battle? Will you follow the path of your heart, the path of your people...will you follow MY path?" A resounding "YES" is torn from the throats of each member of the host, and Khasar finds himself shouting the loudest of all there assembled. |

The host of Tempus | ||
|
As the spirit of Tempus fills him Khasar he finds a deep satifaction. As if a void in his life that he did not even know about has been filled. He feels a part of something bigger than himself, a profound knowledge that no matter where he goes or what he does he will have brothers in arms there to help him.
As he awakens he realizes that, althought he might not know Tempus's plan for him, he has taken the first step on the path the god set before him. Drawing Spellbreaker he holds it in both hands and gently plants the tip in the ground, getting down on one knee he prays: "Tempus light my path, give me the strength and the courage to defeat the enemies in my path. Grant me, your servant, your protection that I may show your enemies your wrath. Protect me in all things that I might spread your message, by deed and by word, to all who would hear it." |

Fifthday, Thirdweek Eleasis, The Year of Lightning Storms (1374 DR)
Dawn With the coming of morning, Serin Brightshield visits you once more. "The head of my order commanded me to pay you visit one final time before you set forth. He thanks you for your efforts thus-far, and wishes you to know that there shall be a bounty for you, should you return with Gron'rindul's remains. He is, indeed, grateful." Through this speech, Serin seems to be...uncomfortable. As if something else is troubling him. "He also has said that, should you triumph over the creature, you are to go no further...that the portal would likely be your doom. Further, he asks that, before you return, one of you intone this scroll o'er Gron'rindul's remains...and that should you lack the knowledge and ability to do so, that I should accompany you to see it done." |

Khasar takes the scroll from Serin and unrolls it. After stareing at it for a moment Khasar bows his head. "Tempus grant me the knowledge to read understand the wisdom imparted on this parchment that I may use it to honor the remains of one who has fallen in battle, giving his life in an act as befitting your tenants as ever there was."
(OOC: Caste read magic on the scroll.) |
