Sorry I haven't been active recently, guys. I've been ill. I'm better now, so expect more from me here soon.

Bah, you are just as bad as Andorax is. You with you "I am sick" and him with his "I am on holiday." You BOTH sound like my wife.

It's a bit of an off-topic discussion, but I just tossed some ideas out in the 3.5 Resources forum, and I would welcome any thoughts, ideas, or comments on them. Please, post in that thread rather than here.
Once I get it polished up, I may very well allow it as official to my current campaign here. pub175.ezboard.com/f3ebb8...=130.topic "Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

Timing Question | ||
|
Andorax, can you set me straight on a few things?
1) When did we seperate? 2) When did Gron get back? 3) When did Qayan and Khasar get back (it sounds like they are, but I couldn't tell for sure)? 4) How late is it once Valarions couple of hours searching through the poor quarter is up? |

Re: Timing Question | ||

Yeah, that's also what I wanted to ask... how am I doing on time, relative to others? Obviously I won't know when they'll get back, but just Valarion's estimate on whether or not he should hurry back at this point, or proceed for further searches.
Oh, and you probably missed the question in my post IC, asking for the Cleric (was it a Cleric)'s name. Or did you see it but the Cleric refuses to answer? Darken Light, is the lack of darkness. |

Didn't have a good, subtle way to work in that she refused to tell you, so I glossed....and I tried to give the impression that time is wearing on you. It looks like finding this missing apprentice is going to be quite a good deal more work than you originally thought, certainly not something you'll be able to do in a casual hour or two.

I believe that Khasar and Qayan are on their way back to the dwarven temple, engrossed in a theological debate.

Map Question | ||
|
I'm looking at trying something new in the future for combat threads. I've been talking with a couple of different companies/websites, and have negotiated the use of some of their graphics to try and "spice things up" a bit.
In future combat threads, would you rather continue to see: Or, would you rather see: By the way...the PC images are "standins" for the moment. I've talked with Ogwul, and he thinks he might be able to find an artist to do a custom piece for each of your PCs. As with so many other things, I'm tossing this out for you guys to discuss and let me know what you think. I'm happy to do the extra if it's something you would enjoy. Re: Map Question | ||

That sounds fine. A color map would be cool. As long as it is no extra trouble.
BTW, question about the game: When the priests cleared the spy-eyeball-tentacle-thingie out of the temple, did they come back to check our room? I can't remember if you had said for sure or not. |

WOW, looks goo. I agree with oliver, as long as it is not too much extra trouble I like the color one better.

Yeah, it's fancier, and I like it. Darken Light, is the lack of darkness. |

Re: Still here | ||

Your room was "swept" as part of the process...and they presumed that, having done so once, it wouldn't be able to get in and out through the door, which was not again opened until they returned to tell you they were sure it was out of the Temple entirely.

Re: Still here | ||

Well, besides taking a bit to load, I like it.
That counter is a bit... odd. Do they have anything that looks more like a halfling, with heavy clothes and thiefness? |

Re: Still here | ||

Please re-read the part about these being "standin" counters for your specific PCs. I just needed something I could use to put the samples together, and much like the townsfolk of Raven's Bluff, I too think that a Drow is about the closest thing to resembling your PC.
Besides...I'd have to recheck, but they might not even have a halfling of any sort. "Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"

New maps | ||

As I stated on ICQ my only concern was size. Since you said you could edit the size of the tiles to accomidate the size of the map, I am all for it.
As for the artist Ogwul might be able to find to do pictures of the party. If it is the same person that did Qayan's portriat I can not wait to see what he does with Khasar. I know I have mentioned to ogwul on quit a few occasions that I admired his characters picture. PS: By now you all should know I can not spell. I think it is some sort of rebelion against my mom who is an English teacher. |

Re: New maps | ||

Yeah, if we can get nice and fancy pictures, it would be really nice. Even if it's just heads like the ones they used in the PHB when describing combat situations.
Oh Andorax, one question. I was just informed that additional powers on magic items (ie add-ons after the primary, most expensive function) only cost 50% more now in 3.5 instead of double cost (so 150% instead of 200%), due to the fact item pricings are more reasonable now and generally more expensive. Did you take this into account when you told me about the price on enhancing my vest further? Darken Light, is the lack of darkness. |

Re: New maps | ||

Could you document that change? I did not take it into account, as I was, indeed, unaware of it.

Re: New maps | ||
|
It can be found in the SRD as well as the 3.5 DMG, in the magic item chapter, right below the big table of the item creation rules. I am at school right now and can't open SRD files for some reason, but I believe if you just check below the table you'll see it. It basically says adding additional powers to a magic item will cost 50% extra, as oppose to 3.0 when it says it will cost double the price because it's effectively slotless.
Also, note, however, that now items have "affinities" for abilities they grant, and powers that do not correspond with these affinities will cost another 50% extra. More readings and rulings for you. Darken Light, is the lack of darkness. |

Re: New maps | ||
|
Here's what the SRD says:
ADDING NEW ABILITIES A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a characters body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5. |

Re: New maps | ||
|
I'll hunt down the official DMG page on it...but for now, that will suffice quite well. Please understand that when I ask you to document something, it's not out of doubting, but just because I want to see it for myself, in context, and weigh it accordingly.
As for XP. I'm going to give this new system a try. Feel free to comment/yell/hollar at me, but this is how my first stab at it turned out: Role-Playing: Qayan        7 Gron'rindul        7 Khasar        9 Valarion        7 Zanas        7 Good across the board, Zanas in particular is RPing at a better level than I've seen in the past. Khasar, however, is the only one who continuously impressed me across the full thread (everyone had their moments, he just had more). Effectiveness: Qayan        4 Valarion        5 Khasar        5 Gron'rindul        7 Zanas        4 I set everyone at a base of 5. Effectiveness is often an accident of circumstances, and Gron'rindul was in the right place at the right time. Qayan lost a point for "tagging along" instead of going after something directly, and Zanas a point for having a counter-productive meeting. Teamwork: Gron'rindul        7 Valarion        7 Khasar        7 Qayan        8 Zanas        7 Set everyone at a base of 7 here, since everyone seemed to be on about the same page (and working towards the same aim). Qayan made up his lost point from above due to his sticking by Khasar and trying to "group everyone back up". Good Ideas: Qayan        5 Valarion        5 Gron'rindul        5 Khasar        5 Zanas        5 Base of 5, and nothing really "lept out" at me on this one. Most of the ideas put forward were either comparably equal, or retreads of past discussion. Final scoring: Valarion        24 Qayan        24 Gron'rindul        26 Khasar        26 Zanas        23 XP awards (adjusted for ties, the system doesn't do that well): Gron'rindul 788 Khasar 788 Valarion 698 Qayan 698 Zanas 630 This, based on the idea that a RP chapter is two encounters of CR = APL (Average Party Level), which is presently 6. Ok, comments? Thoughts? Rotten tomatoes? I figured that, at the very least, the first time I did this I should lay it all out for everyone to see. "Whadda ya mean, Orcs get levels too?!?"
