Darvi stares at the houses for a long moment, before deciding that he would fit in well enough with the people inside. Slowly, he tries to open one of the doors and enter the house.

You open the door, and instead of seeing the inside of the house, you see some sort of vortex in space, covering most of the space of the door. You hear a voice from seemly right in front of you as you stare into the deep purple-blue twists of color. "Begone, Halfling. We have no desire to create more hassle right now. Should you seek to end your life, seek other means of doing so."

Good advice. Darvi closes the door and takes a moment to consider Voice's advice. This is off of his path. Isn't it? Could this vortex lead to the Laboratory? Darvi frowns, and opens the door again, talking to the thing in the room, "What are you and where do you lead?"

You hear a long, frustrated sigh, followed by the cold words, "The answers to both of your questions are your path towards your own demise. Step forward and verify for yourself."

Darvi frowns, and considers this for a long moment. May this be what he's looking for? Probably not...but maybe. Besides, he means no ill to any of the creatures he saw enter the house. He slowly steps forward.

You step through the twirling vortex, and feel some sort of strange, tingling feeling washes over you. Immediate, you see the inside of a glorious mashion, much larger than what the stone structure outside can house. The temperture is warm, pressue is comfortable, and the soft light is relaxing. Of course, the pleasantness of these environmental factors are diminished by the fact about a dozen sharp blades inches from your throat, wielded by a dozen bloody men.
The voice you heard earlier speaks again, this time you can see the origin of the speaker, the man directly in front of you. "I sincerely hope that you have a very, very good reason, halfling." |

Darvi's body becomes tense and he throws his arms up in an attempt to show he means no harm. "Well, no, I do not sir. I was simply cold. I noticed there were others of my kind, halflings, among you and hoped I could find some sanctuary among them."

"He's the one I encountered on the second mountain pass on the southeastern side." A man from the back calls out in weak voice. "Must be one of those 'adventurers' who somehow slip pass the interceptions." Just now, you are able to shift your focus from the blinding blades to the back of these men, and you notice there are a large number of wounded individuals being tended to at the back, on the ground. The Human who just spoke is leaning against the magnificient staircase, left arm and chest still bleeding. Although the voice is hoarse and weak, you can still remember this must be the person who talked to you the first time when you step into the coldness.
Turning back to you, the man in front of you shakes his head. "We do not house strangers. As you can see we have our hands full already, why don't you do both of us a favor, leave, and go home? We are not murderers, but an ambitious dead spirit is better than an ambitious living creature." |

Darvi nods as much as he can with the blades at his neck, "Indeed sir. I will leave willingly." He takes a small step backward, slowly, "Unless you would like my help you in your fight? I'm much stronger than I look. What is your cause?"

"That's absurd, what can..." "Wait." The man turns back as his words were interrupted by someone in the back. A tall, young man walks forward, and asks, "What is your name, halfing? And where do you come from?"
The young man looks too young to even be on the battle field, yet no one questions his actions, and they step away as he comes towards you. |

Darvi considers the question. Should give his name? Bah, what harm could possibly come of it. "My name is Darvi. I come from Athkatla. And who are you?"

"Well met, Darvi," The young man nods to you politely. "My name is Zeltaebar, acting commander of the Wind Rider, Lord Shaundakul's force in this region. If you truely have came all the way from Athkatla and somehow arrive here, along, in the current time in the Realms, certainly you have vast powers at your disposal. I don't know what your skills are, even if it's pure luck, we certainly need your help. That is, if you are willing to grant them."
Before you can respond, the men in front of you snaps, "Ludicrous, Zel, you can't possibly be thinking..." His words were again swallowed before they are spoken as Zeltaebar raises his hand, signalling him to stop without even looking at him. |

Darvi frowns at the man who objects, then turns to "Zel". "Before anything, I have a few requests. I will not officially be part of your army, so I answer to no one but myself, and I will be given all information available if I am to be helping you. Once I hear what you propose, I will make a decision."

Zeltaebar nods, "A fair request. Our purpose is simple: we, as part of the alliance, standard guard of this area against the western threats that may seek to acquire the objects of power. Until just recently, all we had to dispose are petty thieves or proud adventurers who thinks too much of themselves. The Shade's involvement, unwelcome yet expected, is our current worry. The Morninglord's force from the east is coming to assist this area on their way to Myth Drannor, as well as the Elven Lord of Silver March. We have no words from them yet, however, it is obvious they are intercepted.
As for your position, it matters not whether you are under anyone's command or not. As long as you do not oppose us or seek to acquire the above mentioned artifacts, you are an ally." |

"We have driven back their first wave, and hopefully the Lanthanderites and the Elven Lord's army had done the same." Zeltaeber ponders, "Either way, they'll most likely regroup together the three left over armies and launch another attack here. The shades can move at exceptional speed via the Shadow Plane, hence the attack on three sides to delay our grouping despite the heavy casuality to themselves. Also, the main force from the City of the Shades will probably be here as well, it will be a extremely diffcult encounter."
"I am not sure of your capabilities and your skills, but what do you suppose you can do to help? Have you ways of dealing with a large group of enemies? Or assassinating the enemy leader?" |

The men behind Zeltaeber snaps at your remark again, "Bah, is this the kind of men you are going to work with, Zel? The Realms are in the brink of..."
Maybe it's just today, or maybe it's always been this way, but Zeltaeber ignores the men's remark, and asks, "What kind of reward do you think it's appropriate? If you can help in the defeat of the Shades, any reward within my power... nay, my faith's power shall be arranged as you wish." |

Zeltaeber shrugs, "There's not much to tell other than what you know already. We follow Shaundakul, God of Travel and the Winds, and we oppose the Shades. Our God also has been a long time ally of Mystra, thus our effor in aiding them to prevent anyone from obtaining these objects of power. It's simple like that. As for the details regarding this area, it's best that you do not know it, as it might tempt you too much and force us to turn on each other, one thing that I do not wish to see."
